Four generations, the same craft, the same passion

From the tireless industry of bees and from careful management and breeding of our own hives come our products, a true source of energy and wellbeing, entirely natural.

A hundred years in seven dates

From the first permanent apiary in Melito Irpino to the new premises in Pietradefusi (AV).

  1. 1922

    The first apiary

Paolo Di Minico, back from the United States, where he had discovered the fascinating world of bees, set up the area’s first permanent apiary in Melito Irpino (AV). With care and dedication, he moved the bees from traditional rustic hives into Marche-style hives that he built himself. A tradition took shape, handed down from generation to generation.

  2. Anni ’50

    The children join

Alongside their father the business grows, with Antonietta, Angeloantonio and Pasqualino sharing experience and passion for beekeeping every day.

  3. 1980

    Six hundred hives

When Paolo dies, Pasqualino takes over Antonietta’s hives and starts the company with about 600 hives in production.

  4. 1992

    The third generation

His grandson Giuseppe works alongside his grandfather Pasqualino and falls in love with the extraordinary craft of the beekeeper.

  5. 2002

    Artemide is born

Giuseppe founds the new beekeeping company and chooses a name that expresses a deep bond with nature: Artemide (Artemis), the Greek goddess of the wilderness and of animals, and protector of bees.

  6. 2007

    The new premises

Production moves to Pietradefusi (AV), to a workshop with an innovative in-line extraction system and an on-site shop.

  7. 2024

Checking the frames inside the hive

The work you don’t see

The beekeeper’s work follows the rhythm of nature and the seasons. It all starts with the daily care of the hives, which are checked carefully to ensure the health, balance and strength of the colony, in complete symbiosis with the bees.

As the blooms arrive, migratory beekeeping comes into play: the hives are moved to the places where nature offers the best blooms, following the succession of the seasons. From hills to meadows, from plains to mountains, the bees are taken where they can gather nectar and turn it into excellent honey.

The beekeeper follows every phase with care: checking the hives, encouraging the colonies to grow, collecting the supers at the right moment and bringing the combs to the workshop. Here the honey is extracted, filtered and left to rest, then bottled and stored with respect for its natural characteristics.

This is how, thanks to the succession of blooms and the movement of the hives, different types of honey are born: wildflower, acacia, chestnut, sulla, citrus and other varieties, each with its own aroma, color and flavor.

Work made of experience, patience and dedication, preserving an ancient balance between man, bees and land.

“Beyond any economic aspect, it is the feeling of freedom, unpredictability and continuous discovery that beekeeping gives me that still represents, to this day, a vital and inalienable element of my existence.

Putting on a mask, visiting a hive, watching the sinuous movements of the bees on their hexagons: these are things that stir unique emotions in me, which I hope will stay with me all my life.”

Dott. Giuseppe Cefalo
Artemis, the Greek goddess of nature, sculpted in gold: she wears a crown of flowers, a quiver on her shoulder and a bow in her hand, and a few bees fly around her raised hand.
Artemis, protector of fertility and of the bees, from whom the company takes its name.

Why Artemide

Artemis (Artemide in Italian), sister of Apollo and better known by her Roman name Diana, was in the collective imagination of the Greeks and Romans the goddess of virginity, the moon and the hunt. She was also worshipped as a protector of fertility, represented with numerous breasts, bees and flowers. Hence the idea of naming our company Artemide: the goddess who protects the bees, which gather the honey that, mixed with wine, became the drink of the inhabitants of Olympus.
